WTEN Scraps Out Win vs. VCU, 4-3

RICHMOND, Va. –The Penn State women's tennis team was victorious in Saturday morning's match against Virginia Commonwealth.
 
The Nittany Lions improve to 3-2 on the season.
 
Doubles
Penn State won the doubles point with wins in the one and three slots.
 
Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) and Shannon Hanley (Kensington, Md.) defeated Gabriela Davidescu and Luminita Tutunaru, 6-2.
 
Gabby O'Gorman (Gunnedah, N.S. Wales, Australia) and Frederikke Svarre (Copenhagen, Denmark) ended their match trailing 4-5 in their set against Paola Diaz Delgado and Noumea Witmus.
 
Gracey Hirsch (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Olivia Ryan (Victoria, Australia) came out with a win in a 6-3 set against Melissa Ifidzhen and Kanako Yano.
 
Singles
O'Gorman lost in a 1-6, 5-7 match against Diaz Delgado.
 
Smith was victorious in a tight 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 match against Tutunaru.
 
Svarre defeated Davidescu in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
 
Ryan lost her matchup against Yano, 3-6, 0-6. 
 
Hanley dominated Ifidzhen, 6-1, 6-2.
 
Hirsch came up short against Witmus, 4-6, 2-6.
