BLACKSBURG, Va. –The Penn State women's tennis team came up short in Sunday morning's match at Virginia Tech.
The Nittany Lions fall to 3-3 after Sunday's outing.
"It was a well fought match. VT played the pressure points better than us but that's something for us to work on come the Big Ten season," said coach Alex Anghelescu. "We have a bit of a break now so for us it's really focusing in practice and getting ready for our first Big Ten match. I feel the potential for this team is still untapped and I'm excited to see what the next few matches hold."
Doubles
Penn State lost the doubles point as Virginia Tech won in the one and two slots.
Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) and Shannon Hanley (Kensington, Md.) lost a close set against Shene Disbergen and Natalie Novotna, 5-7.
Gabby O'Gorman (Gunnedah, N.S. Wales, Australia) and Frederikke Svarre (Copenhagen, Denmark) fell to Elizabet Danailova and Nika Kozar, 2-6.
Gracey Hirsch (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Olivia Ryan (Victoria, Australia) left their match unfinished against Erika Cheng and Nina Sorkin in a close 6-6 (2-3) set.
Singles
O'Gorman was victorious against Novotna, 6(5)-7, 6-3, 1-0(5).
Smith lost to Kozar, 6(3)-7, 3-6.
Svarre was defeated by Danailova in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 3-6.
Hanley came up short against Sorkin, 0-6, 4-6.
Ryan lost a back-and-forth match against Disbergen, 7-6(1), 3-6, 0(7)-1.
Hirsch was defeated by Cheng, 5-7, 2-6.
