Fisher Wins EIVA Offensive Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's volleyball sophomore Cal Fisher has been named the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career for his performance this past weekend as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Fisher had a monumental career performance in last Friday's 3-2 win at Sacred Heart. He posted a single-game best 23 kills while hitting .476 (23-3-43) while also tying his single-game best with five service aces to lead the Nittany Lions in the reverse sweep victory. He was also great defensively with 10 digs, marking his first career double-double.

The Pittsburgh, Pa., native followed up his monster effort Friday with another team-leading performance on Saturday with 13 kills at a .423 rate. 13 kills had been his previous career high, which he first set Feb. 14 at home against #11 Princeton.

Fisher has started the last five matches for Penn State at the right-side hitter position and has been a steady, productive player for the Nittany Lions. In those five starts, he has no less than eight kills in each match, and has averaged 3.4 kills per set and totaled 15 service aces over the stretch.

Fisher becomes the second Nittany Lion to win the award this season, as Brett Wildman won Offensive Player of the Week twice (Jan. 20 and Feb. 17).

The Nittany Lions return to action Tuesday evening at St. Francis in a midweek conference showdown followed by a home conference weekend this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-29, against George Mason and Charleston at Rec Hall.
