ROSEMONT, Ill. – Senior David Lucas has been named men's Field Athlete of the week following his performance last weekend at the Penn State National Open. Lucas earns the third Field Athlete of the Week honor of his career.
Lucas' season-best throw of 72-7 (22.12m) was the top collegiate throw at the National Open. Lucas' distance is the top in the Big Ten and ranks No. 5 in the NCAA in the event. Lucas, the 2018 NCAA national champion in the weight throw, was the last Nittany Lion to earn men's Field Athlete of the Week. Lucas earned the honor on February 20, 2019.
Lucas earned first team All-America honors for the second time in his career last season in the weight throw event. Lucas placed eighth at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship alongside teammate Morgan Shigo who placed fifth. Lucas and Shigo became the first pair of Nittany Lion teammates to earn All-America status in the weight throw in the same year in program history last season.
