Two Nittany Lions Make it to Finals at Last Day of NCAA Zones

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Penn State men's and women's diving concluded the NCAA Zone A Regional Championships with two reaching the finals of the platform dive Wednesday at West Virginia's Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.

On the women's side, Sierra Shurts led the Nittany Lions with a 10th-place finish after finishing with a 12-dive score of 410.40. Additionally, senior Christina Crowell concluded a stellar career with a six-dive score of 176.25 to place 21st. 

On the men's side, junior Bryce Hoch had an 11th-place finish after scoring 522.65 overall. His prelim score of 239.40 qualified him for a finals spot, where he dove for a career-best of 283.25. 

On the first day of competition Monday, freshman Kevin Sullivan led the Nittany Lions with an 18th-place finish in the men's 3-meter with a final score of 597.75. Sullivan again reached the finals Tuesday, doing so in the 1-meter, where he totaled 571.60 points to place 14th. Hoch also reached the finals in the same event and placed 17th with a final score of 554.50.

Despite the strong performances, none of the Nittany Lions were able to advance to the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships.

Penn State will send swimmers to both the NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships in Athens, Georgia from Mar. 18 to Mar. 21 and the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. from Mar. 25 from Mar. 28. Maddie Hart and Marie Schobel will represent the women, while Gabe Castano, Michael Daly and the 200 free relay team will represent the men.
