BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior captain Brandon Biro (Sherwood Park, Alberta) became the fifth Nittany Lion in program history to ink an NHL contract on Wednesday morning after agreeing to terms on a two-year, entry-level deal with the Buffalo Sabres that begins in the 2020-21 season.
Biro joins Andrew Sturtz (Ottawa), Casey Bailey (Toronto), Eamon McAdam (New York Islanders) and Vince Pedrie (New York Rangers) who also inked NHL deals following their time at Penn State.
"From the day he stepped on campus, Brandon has consistently worked hard to improve every aspect of his game," commented head coach Guy Gadowsky. "We are very proud and excited for Brandon and look forward to seeing his success with the Sabres."
Earlier this season, Biro became the sixth different Nittany Lion to reach 100 career points and he leaves Hockey Valley fourth on the all-time points list (116), third on the all-time assists list (75) and tied for eighth on the all-time goals list with 41 in 138 career games, tied for the sixth-most in program history.
The senior missed nine games this season due to injury, but still managed his fourth-straight season of 20-plus points, scoring ten goals while adding 15 assists in just 25 games. Biro's best season statistically came in 2018-19 when he earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors after becoming just the seventh different player in program history to hit the 40-point mark. He finished the campaign with career-highs in goals (16), assists (24) and points (40).
Each of his totals during his junior season rank in the top-10 for single season records at Penn State with his point total tied for the fifth-most while his goals and assists each rank tied for ninth.
Biro is the first member of a 10-person senior class to ink a professional contract. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native was part of 85 career victories during his time as a Nittany Lion and helped lead Penn State to a Big Ten Tournament Championship (2017) and a Big Ten regular-season crown this past season as well as a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances (2017, 2018).
