UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Three Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey players have been named Scholars of Distinction by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Head coach Char Morett-Curtiss' squad was well represented on the list of 167.
This year, 167 student-athletes have been recognized as Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction. The Division I Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2019-20 academic year.
Redshirt freshman goalie Brie Barraco (Allentown, Pa.) is a kinesiology major, movement science option, and has a 3.94 grade point average. Barraco helmed the goal in each and every game for Penn State this year. She ended the year with a 2.02 goals against average, a .713 save percentage and 102 saves.
Sophomore Eleni Prodes (Bethlehem, Pa.) is a nutritional science major, nutrition physiology and biochemistry option, and sports a perfect 4.0 GPA. Prodes played in 14 games for the Nittany Lions, seeing time in the midfield for Penn State. She started four games this past fall.
Junior Emma Spisak (Boiling Springs, Pa.) is a public relations major and has a 3.91 GPA. Spisak played in all 20 games for the Nittany Lions, starting multiple games. Spisak ended the year with six points off two goals and two assists.
