With the new year upon us, let's take a second to check in with incoming freshman field hockey player Julia Lamb! Julia is a Phoenixville, Pa. native. The Oley Valley graduate is a midfielder on this year's Nittany Lion squad for head coach Char Morett-Curtiss.
Q: Welcome to Happy Valley! What were the main reasons you chose Penn State and this program?
I chose Penn State because of the incredible atmosphere and variety of majors to choose from.
Q: With the disruption that occurred nationally from the NCAA's reaction to a virus, how have you been able to interact with your new Nittany Lion teammates prior to coming to Penn State this Summer/Fall?
I have been able to connect with my teammates much sooner through zooms and on social platforms. I have not been able to interact with them in person but zoom and FaceTime have been our major platforms to continue building the team atmosphere and relationship.
Q: What are you most excited about doing when you get on campus as an official member of the Penn State family?
I am most excited to adapt to the college lifestyle by working out with the team, making new friends, and expanding my education in hopes of figuring out what I want to do in the future.
Q: What do you plan on majoring in and why?
I am currently undecided, but I am interested in studying kinesiology and nutrition.
Q: How do you plan on approaching the transition to competing athletically at this level?
I plan to take it day by day with a focused mindset. We are in very unknown times and it is extremely easy to let that get to my head, but as we get closer to a season, I need to be focused on that transition.
Q: If there is one thing you absolutely must bring with you from home to Penn State, what is it?
I like to bring pictures of my friends, family, and dogs because they remind me of how I got to Penn State and that they are always there for me.
Q: What is the one thing you are going to miss most about not being home?
I am going to miss going out to see my friends constantly and being with my family and dogs.
