A special message from head coach Cael Sanderson to the our wrestling community!
Hello Penn State Wrestling Family!
I hope you are all doing as well as possible during this challenging time. Like every other program and athletic department across the nation, there is a lot of uncertainty about this season and college athletics in general. As a staff, we are excited about our return to action, whenever that may be and we remain grateful for all that we have and for the opportunity to represent the Penn State Nation on the mat when the time comes. This week we had our first contact practice since March. I can't tell you how great it is to be back training in the Lorenzo wrestling room again, even if in a limited capacity.
We have a very special group of young men in the program right now, with strong work ethics and lofty goals. The future of PSU Wrestling is looking great. The Big Ten's decision to resume football in October, and the fact that the NCAA recently announced the start date for college basketball and the new 'spring' schedules for the fall sports that were postponed, gives us hope that we will know when our season will begin soon. We are working hard and will be ready when the time comes.
I want to make you aware of a wrestling event the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club (NLWC) is hosting this Saturday, September 19. The event, which will feature no fans, is available to view live online and we are pretty excited about the line-up. Twelve NLWC wrestlers will be featured in the thirteen matches. A complete list of matchups can be found below. While there will be no fans at the event, that won't change the electric atmosphere and the outstanding level of wrestling that fans can see. Jeff Byers and David Taylor will provide commentary beginning around 7:30, and the first match will begin at 8:05 pm eastern time.
Please visit The Nittany Lion Wrestling Club for information on how to watch this awesome virtual event live! Proceeds from this match will benefit the NLWC and the Olympic hopefuls training in the club. The NLWC is an organization that supports amateur wrestling at all levels in central Pennsylvania, but focuses on Olympic Development. The top priority of the club is to support the Olympic aspirations of current and past Penn State Wrestling alumni, as well as a select and diverse group of wrestlers from around the country and world. The opportunity for the current PSU wrestlers to train with the Olympic Development program is a major contributor to their individual and team accomplishments.
The matchups and match order are as follows:
1. Malik Amine vs. Rick Durso
2. Nick Nevills vs. Jordan Wood
3. Jennifer Page vs. Desiree Zavala
4. Jaimie Espinal vs. . Domenic Abounader
