UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Three initiatives set for October will benefit local programs through partnerships with the Coaches vs. Cancer®-Penn State chapter and the American Cancer Society. Events include Golf Week now through Oct. 18 and the annual 5K Run/Walk Oct. 24-31 as well as efforts with Centre Pink and the PSECU Coach's Challenge continuing over the next several months.
The schedule of CVC-Penn State events has been altered this year out of an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic with these alternatives available following appropriate health and safety guidelines.
While the annual Coaches vs. Cancer®-Penn State Golf Tournament was rescheduled for May 2021, individuals can tee off on cancer now through Sunday, Oct. 18, by playing rounds of golf at their courses of choice and considering a donation to the PSECU Coach's Challenge. The best-dressed team and group playing the farthest from Penn State and State College, as well as other category winners, will be selected for prizes. Contest submissions, photos and short videos from the teams can be emailed to eden.gilligan@cancer.org.
An entire week is devoted to the annual CVC-Penn State 5K Walk/Run as individuals can log their excursions from Saturday, Oct. 24 through Saturday, Oct. 31. Registration is online with an entry fee of $20 for an adult and $10 for youth, which includes a custom race bib and t-shirt. To get into the spirit of Halloween with the chance to win a prize, individuals who wear costumes during their walk/run costume should tag pictures with "@CVCPennState" on Facebook to be entered into the costume contest.
New assistant coach and Nittany Lion legend Talor Battle will represent the Nittany Lion basketball program during Centre Pink campaign which will run through December 31, 2020. Community leaders and organizations in the Centre Region, as well as Penn State alumni and local celebrities have volunteered to help raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research and services.
