COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – Penn State freshman forward Kiara Zanon has been selected to attend the USA Hockey Women's National Team Evaluation Camp October 25-31 at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota.
Zanon joins an elite group of U.S. athletes as one of only 53 players invited, a group that includes 17 members of the 2019 gold-medal winning U.S. National Team, 14 members of the 2018 gold-medal winning Olympic team, and 31 current collegiate athletes.
The camp is a part of the process in selecting the U.S. Women's National Team for the 2021 IIHF World Championship.
"We are proud of Kiara and wish her the best," said Penn State head coach Jeff Kampersal. "We will be thinking of her while she is competing at camp."
Zanon has already had a winning impact on USA Hockey at the international level, having scored the game-winning goal in the gold medal game at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship in Slovakia teaming with fellow Nittany Lion freshman, Lyndie Lobdell.
She also won a silver medal at the 2019 junior championship playing alongside current Nittany Lion, Mallory Uihlein.
Zanon has also gathered additional international experience with USA Hockey on the 2018 U18 Select Team, the 2018 Women's National Festival roster, and the 2018 Select 70 Camp roster.
A fast skater and skilled goal scorer, Zanon led the Provincial Women's Hockey League (PWHL) in scoring with 64 points and 33 goals in just 35 games for the Kingston Jr. Ice Wolves in 2019 prior to enrolling at Penn State this fall.
