With the fall semester nearing its midway point we were able to check in with some of our student-athletes to see how they have been adjusting since returning to campus. Today we spoke with redshirt-sophomore Taylor Waller from Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.
Q. What was your favorite moment from the summer?
My favorite memory was being able to spend a lot of time with my family because for most of the year, myself and my siblings are not in the same place at the same time.
Q. What was it like returning to campus for the first time this fall and what was the first thing you did?
It felt so good to be back on campus and to see all my teammates since I had not seen most of them since March! The first thing I did was move into the house I am living in with Olivia Zambruno and Sarah Willis.
Q. What is your favorite spot at Penn State and why?
My favorite spot at Penn State is the golf course, especially in the fall time. When the leaves start changing, the course is so beautiful!
Q. What type of activities have you been doing as a team since returning to campus?
I spent a lot of time with my roommates, Olivia and Sarah, decorating our house!
Q. How are you adjusting to hybrid learning? How many in person classes do you have and how are they different from previous years?
I have adjusted to hybrid learning pretty easily. Switching to online courses at the end of last semester, really prepared me for this semester. I have no in person classes this semester.
Q. What is the most interesting class you are taking this semester and why?
The most interesting class I am taking is my Kinesiology class. I am minoring in Sport Studies, so this class relates to what I may want to do when I graduate.
Q. With no official competition this fall what has your approach been and what are you looking to focus most on?
With no official competition this fall I have been playing in a few individual tournaments to try to get as much competition as I can get. I have been focusing on my mindset while I play and trying to stay positive in all situations.
Q. What is your most improved part of your game since arriving at Penn State?
The most improved part of my game would have to be my chipping. I spent a lot of time this summer working on my chipping, so I can get up and down more.
Q. What is one golf course on your bucket list that you absolutely must play at some point in your life?
I would love to play Pebble Beach!
Q. What was it about golf that interested you and when did you begin playing?
Watching my older sister play, really got me interested in playing golf. I began playing golf since I was 12.
