NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. – Former Nittany Lion Ellen Ceresko '15 is set to compete this week in the 2020 KPMG Women's PGA Championship, which was originally scheduled for June 25-28, but due to COVID-19 was rescheduled to October 8-11 at Aronimink Golf Club.
Ceresko, a PGA teaching professional, qualified for the event back in August 2019 after placing fourth at the LPGA National Championship at Pinehurst No. 8 in North Carolina. The event was a 54-hole stroke play championship, and the top-eight LPGA/PGA Club Professional's qualified for the Women's PGA. Ceresko fired scores of 81-70-75 to make the cut.
Ceresko, a four-time WGCA All-American Scholar and three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar during her days as a Nittany Lion, now splits time between New York and Florida as a teaching professional in the PGA working at Sleepy Hollow Country Club (New York) and Tiburon Golf Club (Florida).
The Jefferson Township native, had nine top-10 finishes during her time at Penn State including, at the time, the lowest 54-hole score in program history with an 8-under, 208, to capture individual medalist honors at the 2012 Nittany Lion Invitational. That mark currently stands as the third lowest 54-hole score in school history. Her 74.19 scoring average during the 2013-14 season is the seventh-best season average in school history.
Second round coverage of the event resumes at 1:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon on Golf Channel while weekend coverage begins on Golf Channel in the morning before concluding on NBC.
