ROSEMONT, Ill. – Senior captain Alex Limoges (Winchester, Va.) was named the Big Ten's Second Star of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning following his performances in a weekend sweep against No. 20 Arizona State.
This marks just the second time in his career Limoges has garnered weekly accolades and the first time since also earning Second Star of the Week on November 13, 2018.
The senior registered a league-best three goals in two games played to tie for the national lead for the week while adding one assist for a Big Ten best four points. Limoges had a pair of multi-point games over the weekend and now has three in-a-row and 31 for his career.
Limoges jumped into the team lead in points following his four-point weekend as he is now tied for ninth nationally and fifth in the Big Ten with nine points in eight games. His five goals this season are tied for eighth in the nation and third in the Big Ten.
Over the weekend Limoges also passed Michigan State's Mitchell Lewandowski for the career goal lead among active Big Ten players with 46 for his career, good for second nationally. With his three goals, Limoges passed David Goodwin '17 and Casey Bailey for sixth on the Penn State all-time goals.
Two of his three goals came on the powerplay giving him 12 for his career to tie Nikita Pavlychev '20 for second on the Penn State all-time PPG list just one shy of the record held by four former Nittany Lions.
Penn State will enjoy nearly a month off for the holidays before returning to action sometime in January. The Big Ten Conference has not yet announced the second half of the 2020-21 men's ice hockey schedule.
