Penn State Falls To #15 Indiana On The Road

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Penn State women's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday afternoon as #15 Indiana used a strong second half to claim a 90-65 win in Big Ten action at Assembly Hall.
 
Senior Niya Beverley led Penn State with a season-best 16 points. Freshman Maddie Burke tallied her third-straight double-digit scoring game with 13 points. Sophomore Anna Camden recorded her fourth double-figure effort in the last five games with 12 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Penn State used a 6-0 streak over a 1:08 stretch midway through the first quarter to jump out to a quick 10-7 lead. The Hoosiers battled back with a 15-7 run to pull ahead 22-17, but freshman Tova Sabel hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to end the first quarter and pull the Lady Lions within 22-20.
  • Camden scored Penn State's first four points of the second quarter, but the Hoosier edge reached six at 30-24. Five points from Burke and a Beverley three-pointer then comprised an 8-2 PSU run that tied the score at 32 and forced an Indiana timeout at the 5:23 mark of the second term. Camden then tossed in four points in the final 41 seconds of the half to give Penn State a 40-39 lead at the break.
  • The Hoosiers scored the first 11 points of the second half to kick start a 19-6 Indiana run that put IU up 55-48 seven minutes into the second half. Beverley hit her third three of the game at the 2:27 mark and Camden followed with a layup that pulled Penn State back within single digits at 60-51, but the Hoosiers scored the final five points of the term to take a 65-51 lead into the final quarter.
  • The Indiana offense kept rolling in the fourth quarter and Penn State struggled to find its rhythm as the Hoosiers pulled away to claim the 90-65 victory.

 
KEY NOTES

  • The loss marked Penn State's first loss when leading at halftime. Penn State entered the game 6-0 when leading at halftime.
  • Beverley scored a season-best 16 points behind a 5-for-8 effort from the floor.
  • Burke finished with a trio of three-pointers, marking her fifth-straight game with three or more three-pointers. It was her fifth double-digit effort of her freshman season.
  • Camden notched her sixth double-digit game of the season and fourth in the last five games.
  • Johnasia Cash led Penn State with nine rebounds, while Makenna Marisa dished a team-best five assists.

  • Penn State returns home Saturday to host Michigan State in the 15th-annual Play4Kay Game Benefiting Pink Zone. Tipoff is slated for noon and the game will be nationally televised on the Big Ten Network.
