UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's volleyball freshman Michael Valenzi and junior Sam Marsh were named the EIVA Offensive and Defensive Players of the week for their individual performances this past weekend.
Valenzi powered Penn State's offense to back-to-back wins over Sacred Heart, posting eight kills in Saturday's 3-0 win followed up by a season-high 17 kills and 19 points in Sunday's 3-1 win. Valenzi was also efficient in his efforts hitting .452 over both matches.
The Baca Raton, Fla. native also had season highs in aces (2) and digs (8) in Sunday's win for Penn State.
The EIVA Offensive Player of the Week award is the first for Valenzi in his Penn State career
Marsh had another stout defensive performance for Penn State to earn his third career DPoW award and his second this season thanks in part to 11 blocks last weekend.
He matched his career high with eight blocks in Sunday's win, including a momentous solo block after a long rally kept alive by Penn State's defense.
Marsh also chipped in offensively with nine kills at a .338 clip over both matches.
The No. 10 Nittany Lions take on No. 12 George Mason in a two-match EIVA series this coming weekend, Feb. 26-27, at Rec Hall.
