ROSEMONT, Ill. – Penn State men's soccer freshman Peter Mangione was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.

Mangione netted both Penn State's game-winning goals in the first two games of the season, against No. 21 Maryland and on the road at Rutgers.

The Hunt Valley, Md. native had quite the collegiate debut against Maryland on Feb. 19, recording three points on one goal and one assist. He was in the starting lineup and played 59 crucial minutes as the Nittany Lions hung on to defeat the ranked Terrapins, 3-2.

The midfielder/forward then followed up that debut with a spot in the starting lineup again on the road at Rutgers on Feb. 23. After the Scarlet Knights found the equalizer in the 33rd minute, Mangione followed that up less than two minutes later for the eventual game-winning goal.

Mangione is currently second in the conference with five total points. He leads the Big Ten with two game-winning goals and is third in the nation in that category.

He was also named to College Soccer News' Team of the Week.

The honor is the first of the young Mangione's career and Penn State's first this season.

Mangione and the Nittany Lions return to University Park and Holuba Hall to play host to Michigan State on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m.
