Men's Gymnastics Set for Virtual Meet with Navy on Saturday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Seventh-ranked Penn State takes a break from Big Ten competition to take on Navy in a non-conference meet Saturday at 1 p.m. The meet will be held virtually with the Lions competing in their practice facility at the White Building.

Penn State enters at 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the Big Ten after losses to Ohio State and Iowa. Navy is 1-2 with a win over William & Mary and losses to Ohio State and Stanford.

SERIES HISTORY
• Penn State and Navy will meet for the 53rd time in a series that began in 1937.
• The Lions lead the series 41-11.
• The teams last met in 2018 as part of a tri-meet with Air Force. Penn State won with a score of 410.30, while Navy was second at 393.95.

• Penn State is ranked seventh with an average score of 397.460 and a high score of 406.900. Navy is ranked seventh with an average score of 389.275 and a high score of 395.600.

LAST TIME OUT
• Penn State fell to a tough Iowa team 398.850-393.550.
• The Lions posted season-high score of 71.400 on vault, led by Matt Cormier, who won the event with a 14.60. Michael Jaroh was second with a 14.40, while Michael Artlip scored 14.25 to finish fifth.
• Jack Baldwin and Parker Clayton added event wins for Penn State. Baldwin took first on pommel horse with a score of 13.45, while Clayton won rings with a 14.00.

SCOUTING NAVY
• Navy will compete in its third virtual meet of the season. The Mids lost to Ohio State and Stanford in other virtual meets.
• The Mids' best scoring effort of the season came last weekend in a 395.60-385.45 win over William & Mary.
• Navy had individual wins in five events against The Tribe.

MOCK EARNS BIG TEN/NATIONAL HONORS
• Nick Mock made it three weeks in a row that a Penn State gymnast earned honors from the Big Ten and nationally. The junior was selected as the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week and the CGA National Specialist of the Week after scoring a nation-leading 14.8 on pommel horse against Ohio State.

JAROH WINS BIG TEN/NATIONAL HONORS
• Freshman Michael Jaroh dominated the CGA national and Big Ten awards after his performance against Nebraska, where he won three events and finished second in another.
• Jaroh was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week and Freshman of the Week one day, and then added CGA national Gymnast of the Week and Rookie of the Week the following day.

CORMIER WINS BIG TEN/NATIONAL FRESHMAN HONORS
• Freshman Matt Cormier was rewarded for his outstanding meet against Illinois. He was voted the Big Ten Rookie of the Week and the CGA National Rookie of the Week.

UP NEXT
• Penn State returns to Big Ten competition when it travels to compete against Minnesota on Saturday, March 6. The Gophers are 0-3 with losses to Iowa, Ohio State and Nebraska.
