Fisher Wins EIVA Offensive Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's volleyball opposite hitter Cal Fisher was named the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this season and the second time in his career as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

The junior from Pittsburgh, Pa. was once again a catalyst for Penn State's offense in the Nittany Lions' 2-0 weekend against EIVA rival George Mason. Fisher led Penn State with 28 kills over the two matches, including 17 in last Friday's 3-1 win.

Fisher scored points efficiently all weekend long with a .358 hitting percentage (28-4-57) and had a good defensive presence for Penn State six digs in both matches.

However, where Fisher really added a winning element to Penn State's performance for the weekend was from the service line. Fisher had a pair of aces in each match and went on service runs that put the Patriots out of system multiple times.

Fisher leads all players in the country with 29 service aces and is averaging 0.674 aces per set which also leads the country among players with at least five matches played this season.

He leads Penn State this season averaging 4.20 points per set and 3.27 kills per set. He has double-digit kills in all but two matches he has started this season.

Fisher and the Nittany Lions host Charleston (W.V.) in a two-match set this coming weekend, March 5-6, at Rec Hall.
