Penn State Diving's Kevin Sullivan Qualifies for NCAAs on Day One of Zones

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's and women's diving concluded day one of the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships in Greensboro, N.C. at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. 

Top Dives
Sophomore Kevin Sullivan qualified for the men's swimming & diving NCAA Championships with his 3-meter performance on day one.

Sullivan scored 252.5 at prelims and his finals score totaled 576.45, qualifying him for NCAA competition. He will also compete in the 1-meter on Friday evening.

Senior Bryce Hoch also competed in the 3-meter with 535.95 total points after finals.

In the women's 1-meter, junior Sierra Shurts placed eighth out of 31 divers in prelims with a score of 252 and placed 12th overall in finals, totaling 490 points. Also in the 1-meter, Wei Wei finished with 473.5 points.

The divers get six dives to impress in the 1-meter and 3-meter, and the top 18 divers in each event will move onto finals, when they will perform six more dives. Scores from prelims are carried over into the finals. The platform event features the men taking 12 dives in two sets of six, and the women doing two lists of five for ten total dives.

The divers are vying to join qualified Penn State swimmers to compete at the NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships in Greensboro, N.C. from Mar. 17 to Mar. 20 and the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships in the same location from Mar. 24 to Mar. 27.
