Rhea, Vanriele Claim Second Team All-American Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Two members of the Penn State track & field team were in competition in the second day of the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday.

A week after becoming the first Penn State runner to win the indoor 60-meter hurdles title at the Big Ten Championships, sophomore Sincere Rhea placed 14th in the semifinals of the 60h hurdles. Rhea was the one of two members of the Big Ten to compete in the event and posted a time of 7.99.

Freshman Victoria Vanriele was up next, representing the Penn State women in the 800-meter semifinals. The Big Ten 800-meter champion placed 12th in the event with a time of 2:07.95. Vanriele was the only freshman to compete in the event.

"It was great to see Sincere and Victoria compete today at the NCAA Indoor Championships," Head Coach John Gondak said. "Many will say this is the hardest meet in the world to qualify for considering there is no set standard. You are always aiming for a moving target to try to land in the top 16 in your event in the entire country. This was a great experience for them, and I know they will challenge their teammates to join them here next year.  As a program we are excited to move into the outdoor season."

By Finishing in the top 16, both athletes will be named second team All-Americans at the conclusion of the competition on Saturday. This wraps up the indoor season for Penn State and they will now turn their focus to the outdoor season slated to begin on March 26.
