UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State dominated Maryland in a 6-1 victory in the first outdoor match at the Sarni Tennis Center since April 12, 2019. The Nittany Lions ended the weekend undefeated to improve to 7-5 on the season.
Doubles
The Nittany Lions secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3.
Gabby O'Gorman (Gunnedah, N.S. Wales, Australia) and Karly Friedland (Hollywood, Fla.) fell to Ayana Akli and Eva Alexandrova in a 3-6 set.
Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) and Frederikke Svarre (Copenhagen, Denmark) won 6-3 against Adela Josefova and Zoe Kulkarni.
Olivia Ryan (Victoria, Australia) and Alexandra Nielsen (Vancouver, BC, Canada) clinched the doubles point with a win over Ebony Sampson and Minorka Miranda in a 6-4 set.
Singles
Alina Lebedeva (Moscow, Russia) made quick work of Vera Markovic, winning 6-0, 6-3
Smith extended the Nittany Lion lead to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Miranda.
Nielsen clinched the match for the Nittany Lions with a strong 6-2, 6-2 showing against Kulkarni.
O'Gorman fell to #89 Akli 6-3, 1-6, 0-6 as Maryland got on the board.
Friedland earned another win in a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 match against Josefova.
Svarre brought the final score to 6-1 by beating Alexandrova 5-7, 7-5, 10-5.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan on Friday before heading to East Lansing to take on Michigan State on Sunday.
