Penn State Selected to Morgantown Regional

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 33 ranked Penn State women's gymnastics team has been selected to compete in the Morgantown Regional of the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship scheduled to take place April 1-3 in Morgantown, W.V.

The Nittany Lions will take on regional host West Virginia in a play-in dual meet on April 1, with the winner advancing to compete in the night session of April 2nd's regional competition.

 The top 16 teams in the nation were assigned based on their National Qualifying Score ranking. The remaining 20 teams were assigned based on geographic location in relation to the four regional sites. Eight teams from each region will compete on April 2, with the top four teams advancing to the regional final on April 3. The top two placing teams in the April 3 competition will advance to compete at the NCAA Championship in Fort Worth, Texas, April 16-17.

In addition, four Penn State gymnasts were selected as automatic individual qualifiers for the regional round. Sophomore Cassidy Rushlow was selected as one of three All-Around competitors in the Morgantown Regional. Seniors Ava Verdeflor and Alissa Bonsall were selected as individual specialists on bars and Melissa Astarita was selected as a specialist on floor. These four individuals will compete in the regional round regardless of Penn State's result on April 1.

In addition to Penn State and West Virginia, the Morgantown Regional will host No. 4 Michigan, No. 5 California, No. 13 UCLA, Ohio State, Towson and Kent State.
