Schlegel, Asman Collect Big Ten Weekly Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Two Penn State women's soccer student-athletes earned Big Ten weekly honors following a 2-0 week for the Nittany Lions.

Redshirt sophomores Ally Schlegel and Katherine Asman were honored as the Big Ten Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week after strong performances to lead the Nittany Lions to a pair of wins over Minnesota and Michigan.

Schlegel last earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors on September 10, 2019 when she was named both the Big Ten Player of the Week and Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Schlegel also earned Freshman of the Week on September 4, 2019.

Schlegel scored three goals in the Nittany Lions wins last week, netting both game-winners. Schlegel scored twice in the Nittany Lions 3-0 win over Minnesota and netted the game-winner in the 21st minute in the 4-1 win over Michigan.

After her three goals in the wins, Schlegel is tied with teammate Sam Coffey for the Big Ten lead with six goals and is second in the conference with 15 points, trailing only Coffey who has 18.

Schlegel led the Big Ten Conference with 33 points last season and was tied for first with 13 goals.

Asman earns the first Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week honors in her Nittany Lion career. Asman tallied 11 saves in the two wins for Penn State. Asman picked up the second shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over Minnesota and then turned in a career performance with seven saves in a 4-1 win over Michigan.

Asman is currently sports a 5-1-1 record in goal for the Nittany Lions during the 2021 spring season and has a 1.11 goals against average.

The Nittany Lions are on the road for their next two contests traveling to Iowa (March 25) and Nebraska (March 28) .
