Ryan Griffiths Wins Men’s Epee National Championship

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's fencing team finished competing in the 2021 NCAA Championships, crowning one individual champion and four All-Americans at the Bryce Jordan Center Friday afternoon.
 
Junior Ryan Griffiths (Fair Lawn, N.J.) won the men's epee championship, defeating Notre Dame fencer Stephen Ewart 15-10 in the final bout. Griffiths won 16 of his 23 bouts overall and finished the tournament with a .696 win percentage. This is Griffiths' first individual NCAA Champion title.
 
Teammate and sophomore Jonathan Piskovatskov (Houston, Texas) led all epee fencers winning 20 of his 23 bouts overall for a .870 win percentage. He advanced to the Men's Epee Semifinal but fell short of the championship bout. He finished the tournament tied for third place with Robert Hondor of N.J.I.T and earned All-America honors.
 
Senior Sebastiano Bicego (Vicenza, Italy) and freshman Arwen Borowiak (Tauberbischofsheim, Germany) continued to build on their successes, both improving in the overall foil rankings. Bicego finished the tournament winning 15 of his 22 duals and earning a .682 win percentage. He placed fifth overall for foil and also received All-American honors. Borowiak also finished out the competition winning 15 of his 22 duals for a .682 win percentage and with All-American honors. He placed sixth overall and is also an All-American.
 
Clement Perrier (Allauch, France) had another strong day of competition, finishing the tournament winning 18 of his 23 duals for a .783 win percentage. He advanced to the men's saber semifinal, but fell short of the final bout. He tied third overall with Dalton Walker of St. John's and earned All-America honors. Fellow saber fencer Inti Farfan-Bayerl (Morrison, Colo.) finished tenth overall, winning 12 of his 23 bouts for a .522 win percentage.
 
The Penn State Women's fencing team will begin their NCAA Tournament action tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center. Fans can livestream Rounds One through Three using this link.
