Rivers Claims Big Ten Weekly Honor

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - For the second time this season, Penn State track & field senior Danae Rivers has been recognized for her performance on the track as she has been named Big Teen Co-Track Athlete of the Week.

The former indoor national champion has picked up right where she left off in 2020, ranking in the NCAA top 15 in both the outdoor 800m run and 1500m run. This past weekend at the Big Ten Indiana Invite, she posted the fifth best 1500 time in the nation this season with a 4:14.21. Rivers was the top collegiate finisher in the event and her time is the best in the Big Ten this season.

She shares this week's award with Minnesota senior Bethany Hasz, who recorded the sixth best 5000m time in the nation this weekend with a 15:43.58.

This marks Rivers' eighth combined Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor and third on the outdoor track.

The Nittany Lions outdoor campaign continues this week when the team travels to Prairie View, Texas, for the Big Ten Texas Invitational.
