Penn State Falls in 4-1 Decision to No. 30 Michigan

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State men's tennis (6-9, 6-9 B1G) fell to No. 30 Michigan (14-2, 14-1 B1G) by a final score of 4-1 Friday afternoon at the Sarni Tennis Center as the Wolverines earned the regular season sweep over the Nittany Lions. The match was halted due to a rain delay and moved indoors for the remaining five singles matches.

"Not being able to secure the doubles point has been something we can't seem to figure out," associate head coach Paul Tobin said. "And it's difficult to win against a top-ranked Michigan team if we don't. However, we competed well in singles. I believe if we played it out, we would've been a lot more competitive with the scores."

DOUBLES

The Wolverines claimed the first point of the match with victories at No. 1 and 3.

At No. 3, Michigan's duo of Nick Beaty and Patrick Maloney defeated Sam Bossem (Wimborne Minster, United Kingdom) and Miko Eala (Philippines/Manacor, Spain) 6-0.

On court one, partners Bora Sengul (Denizli, Turkey) and Alp Sentay (Izmar, Turkey) fell to No. 36 Andrew Fenty and Mattias Siimar 6-2 as Michigan clinched the point.

Christos Antonopoulos (Athens, Greece) and Christian Lakoseljac's (King City, Ontario, Canada) match against Connor Johnson and Nino Ehrenschneider went unfinished by a score of 2-5.

SINGLES

Michigan's momentum carried into singles play where the Wolverines won at No. 1, 4 and 5 to solidify the win.

In another impressive performance, freshman Miko Eala defeated Maloney in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 to notch his tenth singles win of the season.

Bora Sengul was in the middle of a 4-6, 6-4, 2-1 battle that was left unfinished against Wolverines' Ondrej Styler on court two.

At No. 6, Christos Antonopoulos' match against Ehrenschneider went unfinished with a score of 6-4, 3-6.
