Lakoseljac Named Big Ten Athlete of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Fifth-year senior Christian Lakoseljac has been named the Big Ten Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon. The Ontario, Canada native earned a doubles and singles win in Penn State's 6-1 home victory over Michigan State on April 18. 

Lakoseljac teamed up at No. 1 doubles with his partner, Bora Sengul, to claim his first ranked doubles win of the year as the duo defeated No. 47 Nick Williams and Kazuki Matsuno, 6-1. At No. 1 singles, Lakoseljac won in three sets over Carson Gates 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. 

Lakoseljac is 6-8 on the year in singles play and 6-5 in doubles, including a 4-0 mark at No. 2. 

CLIMBING THE RECORD BOOKS 

The doubles win against the Spartans marked Lakoseljac's 66th doubles victory of his career. With the win, he moved to No. 10 in all-time career doubles wins at Penn State. 

Lakoseljac earned his third Big Ten Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week honor of his career and is the first Nittany Lion to claim the award since Constant De La Bassetiere on April 19, 2019. 

UP NEXT

The Nittany Lions will wait to find out its opponent in the Big Ten tournament. The 2021 Big Ten Men's Tennis Championship begins Thursday, April 29 and will be hosted by the University of Nebraska.
