Nittany Lions Travel to Columbus for Jesse Owens Invite

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State track & field team will conclude the road portion of its regular season schedule this weekend when the team travels to Columbus, Ohio for the Jesse Owens Invite at Ohio State University.

Competition is scheduled for Friday April 30 and Saturday May 1 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

The Nittany Lions made their mark in field competition last weekend at the Big Ten Relays with several big performances. Tyler Merkley jumped up the Penn State all-time hammer throw lists with a 66.56m (218-4) throw. The toss ranks third in program history and second in the Big Ten this season. On the women's side, Breana Gambrell set a new outdoor personal best of 12.39m (40-7.75) in the triple jump and a season best of 6.12m (20-1) in the long jump. Madison Smith set a new season best in the javelin of 50.63m (166-1), which ranks third in the Big Ten this season.

On the track, Yasmin Brooks posted the sixth best 100h time in Penn State history with a season-best 13.50 in her victory. Also setting a personal record in a victory was senior Kathryn Munks, who bested her PR by over 10-seconds with a 16:11.25 time in her win in the 5000-meter run.

This weekend's meet is scheduled to begin on Friday with the men's javelin at 2 p.m.
