ROSEMONT, Ill. – Penn State baseball catcher/designated hitter Matt Wood has been named to the All-Big Ten second team as a designated hitter.
In his first full season of competition, Wood batted .295 with 10 doubles, one triple and four home runs. Wood scored 22 runs and drove in 21. His .384 on base percentage was second on the team and led the Nittany Lions with 19 walks.
Wood tallied 11 multi hit games in 2021 and six multi-RBI games. He ended the season reaching base safely in 16 consecutive games.
Wood becomes the most recent Nittany Lion to earn All-Big Ten honors since Dante Biasi earned second team honors in 2019.
Conor Larkin was named the recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship award for the Nittany Lions. Larkin is a three-time academic All-Big Ten honoree and has won nine games on the mound for the Nittany Lions in his career. He has 191 strikeouts in his Nittany Lion career.
