Holmberg, Lucas Compete on Third Day of NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Competition continued Friday on the third day of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Oregon.

Penn State had two representatives compete on the day, as Maddie Holmberg and David Lucas made their returns to the national meet.

Holmberg had a solid first day in the women's heptathlon, setting season-bests in both the high jump (1.63m, 5-4.25) and the shot put (13.55m, 44-5.25). She currently stands in 10th place in the heptathlon standings with a score of 3418.

David Lucas appeared in his fourth NCAA Outdoor Championship as a Nittany Lion, closing out his accolade-filled collegiate career by earning Second Team All-American honors. The Big Ten discus champion placed 14th in the event with a throw of 55.53m (182-2).

The NCAA Outdoor Championships will conclude on Saturday with two Nittany Lions in competition on the meet's final day. Holmberg will look to build off her strong first day in the heptathlon when the event resumes at 2:00 p.m. ET. Danae Rivers will look to add one final championship to her resume when she competes in the women's 1500m finals at 6:11 p.m.
