EUGENE, Ore. - Two Nittany Lions capped off their decorated Penn State careers on Saturday on the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
In her final race as a Nittany Lion, Danae Rivers produced a performance to remember, earning First Team All-American honors in the women's 1500m run. The former indoor 800m national champion closed out her tenth combined NCAA Championship appearance with a personal best 4:10.47 to place fourth in the race. The ten time Big Ten Champion set 11 Penn State records over the course of her career, including the collegiate record in the indoor 1000m run in 2019.
Competing at her second NCAA Outdoor Championships, Big Ten heptathlon champion Maddie Holmberg followed her strong performance on Friday with an impressive final day of the meet. Holmberg opened the day with a second place finish in the long jump, posting a jump of 6.28m (20-7.25). She followed with a season-best 37.63m (123-5) javelin throw to place ninth. She finished the meet with a sixth place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:15.39, closing the meet with a season-best score of 5864. Her sixth place finish earned her First Team All-American honors.
As a team, the Nittany Lion women placed 33rd, tying them for third among Big Ten teams at the meet.
Penn State finishes the NCAA Championships with six total All-Americans, with Rivers and Holmberg earning first team honors and David Lucas, Tyler Merkley, Mark Porter and Noah Swaby being named to the second team.
