OMAHA, Neb. – Penn State men's swimmer Michael Daly finished seventh in the U.S. Olympic Trials finals with a 4:19.05 in the 400 IM in the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska. He became the first Penn State American men's swimmer to compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials finals since Nittany Lion Patrick Schirk swam in the 100 and 200 back events in 2008.

Daly set a personal best 4:17.65 in the 400 IM (LCM) Sunday morning to qualify for the finals. He dropped nearly two full seconds off his previous top long course mark to advance to Sunday night's 400 IM final.

From Pearl River, New York, Daly earned All-America honorable-mention honors with his 12th-place finish in the 400 IM at the NCAA Championships after claiming gold at the 2021 Big Ten Championships. He became Penn State's first Big Ten Champion in the 400 IM with a career-best and school record 3:41.09 (SCY).

Penn State alumna Ally McHugh, an NCAA gold medalist, Big Ten champion and highly decorated Nittany Lion women's swimmer, finished fifth in the U.S. Olympic Trials Finals with a 4:36.81, second-best time of her career. The women's 400 IM Sunday night concluded with four of the fastest women's times in the world.

Daly returns to the pool for the 200 freestyle on Monday, June 14. Two Nittany Lions compete on Thursday as Hayden Harlow prepares for the 200 IM with Daly in the 200 backstroke. Jake Houck and Will Roberson are set for the 50 freestyle on Saturday, June 19. The schedule and availability of broadcast and stream coverage is available here.
