Vasquez Sets Honduran National Record in 50 Fly

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO – Penn State men's swimmer Carlos Vasquez set the Honduran national record in the 50m butterfly with a time of 24.94 Thursday at the San Juan Natatorium Aquatic Complex during the Central American & Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation (CCCAN) Championships. Vasquez adds this mark to his three short-course (200m back, 200m IM, 400m IM) and three long-course (400m free, 800m free, 1500m) national records.

Vasquez competed last week in both the 100 and 200 fly events at Inter Ligas. He took second place in the 200 fly (2:05.03) and fifth place in the 100 fly. He holds the No. 5 spot on Penn State's all-time performance list in the 200-yard butterfly and is seventh all-time in the 100-yard event.

Twenty-nine countries are part of CCCAN with five additional countries eligible to send participants to the 2021 CCCAN Championships.
