COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado -- Penn State women's hockey sophomores Josie Bothun (Wyoming, Minnesota) and Kiara Zanon (Fairport, N.Y.) were invited to the 2021 USA Hockey Women's National Festival taking place Aug. 5-13 at the Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota.
Bothun and Zanon were two of 84 players invited to the event, which will serve as a pre-camp for the US. Women's National Team for the 2021 IIHF World Championship being help in Calgary, Alberta beginning Aug. 20.
The Nittany Lion duo were both standout first-year players in Penn State's first CHA regular season championship season in 2020-21, with Bothun being a top-three finalist for the WHCA Goaltender of the Year award and USCHO.com National Rookie of the Year and Zanon receiving AHCA National Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-America honors.
Bothun was one of 12 goaltenders previously invited the USA Hockey High Performance Goaltender Camp March 30-April 2 and will be one of 11 netminders at the national festival.
Zanon was a member of back-to-back USA U18 National Teams in 2019-20, scoring the golden goal in overtime in 2020 to win the U18 World Championship and winning a silver medal in 2019.
