LAST TIME OUT
- Penn State scored twice in the second half to top in-state foe Penn Friday evening in Philadelphia.
- The Quakers struck first, netting a goal in the ninth minute of action as a shot slide just under the outstretched arms of junior goalkeeper Kris Shakes. This would be the only shot on goal Penn would get off in the match.
- The Nittany Lions pressured the backline to find the equalizer in the first 45 but were unable to do so. Penn State held the majority of the possession in the first half and transitioned that into the early stages of the second half.
- In the 52nd minute, the Nittany Lions took advantage of a Penn mistake as the Quaker keeper came off his line in an attempt to clear a long pass and sophomore Peter Mangione secured the ball and found junior Andrew Privett in the box and Privett slotted it into the back of the net to tie the match.
- With the clock just crossing the 80-minute mark, junior Alex Stevenson headed the ball into the box to the feet of classmate Liam Butts and Butts blasted a low shot to the far post for the eventual game-winning goal.
NATIONAL TV DEBUT
- Penn State makes its debut on national television when it hosts No. 15 Pitt on Monday live on FS1.
- The Nittany Lions also have four conference games on the Big Ten Network in the month of October.
SCOUTING PITT
- Pittsburgh is led by sixth-year head coach Jay Vidovich. The 15th-ranked Panthers are 3-2-0 through the first few weeks of the 2021 season and are coming off a huge conference win over No. 4 North Carolina, 4-0, Friday at home.
- Pitt returned 20 total players and 10 starters from its College Cup team a season ago.
- Junior Veljko Petkovic paces the Panthers with 12 points on four goals and four assists. Senior Rodrigo Almeida also has four goals while grad student Jasper Löeffelsend has four assists. Eight other players have also recorded points this season.
- In net, graduate student Nico Campuzano has played all five games. He holds a 1.00 goals-against average with 12 saves for a 0.706 save percentage. He also has two shutouts.
PENN STATE AGAINST PITT
- Penn State holds a 24-7-3 all-time series advantage over rival Pitt.
- The two teams last matched up in the 2019 season, also at Jeffrey Field, where the Nittany Lions won, 3-1. Current Penn State juniors Liam Butts and Jalen Watson both scored goals in that outing.
