Women's Volleyball Hits .451 in Sweep of Robert Morris

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – No. 20 Penn State women's volleyball hit .451 on its way to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-12) win over Robert Morris on Friday morning at the WVU Coliseum. The Lions improved to 6-3 with their sixth sweep of the season, while the Colonials fell to 6-5.
 
The match was the first for Penn State at the Mountaineer Invitational. The Lions close the event with a match against host West Virginia tonight at 7 p.m. The Mountaineers are unbeaten at 10-0, including a sweep over Michigan in their lone match against a Big Ten opponent this season.
 
Allie Holland and Adanna Rollins led the way for Penn State in the dominant win. Holland took care of business in the middle, hitting .688 with 11 kills and five blocks. Rollins did her work from the outside, hitting .538 with nine kills, six digs and four blocks. All four of those blocks were solo. Rollins had seven kills on her first seven attacks.
 
Penn State had five players finish with at least five kills and better than .300 hitting, including Jonni Parker (six kills, .455 hitting), Anastasiya Kudryashova (five kills, .375) and Kaitlyn Hord (five kills, .333 hitting). Annie Cate Fitzpatrick played the third set and was perfect on her three swings with three kills.
 
Setter Gabby Blossom guided the Penn State offense and came up just short of a double-double with 25 assists and nine digs. Jenna Hampton led all players with 10 digs.
 
The Lions held Robert Morris to .054 hitting as a team. Emma Granger paced the Colonials, hitting .300 with four kills and five blocks.
 
Penn State improved to 7-0 all-time against Robert Morris. The teams played each other for the first time since 2009.
 
The match against West Virginia tonight is the final non-conference contest of the regular season for Penn State. The Lions open Big Ten play at Rutgers on Friday, Sept. 24.
