UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The 2021-22 Penn State women's hockey team enters the new season ranked ninth by USCHO.com in its women's college hockey preseason poll as announced Monday afternoon.
This ranking comes just under a week after the Nittany Lions were chosen 10th in the Preseason USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll.
After reaching the top 10 rankings for the first time in team history last season, the Nittany Lions' preseason ranking for the upcoming campaign is also its first in program history.
The 2020-21 Nittany Lions had a 16-3-2 record overall last season and clinched their first CHA regular season championship.
Penn State reached the top 10 rankings for the first time on January 11, 2021 when they were tabbed No. 10 in the nation. The Nittany Lions rose as high as No. 7 in last season's rankings and completed the season as the eight-ranked team by USCHO.com.
2020-21 CHA Coach of the Year Jeff Kampersal and the Nittany Lions return 19 student-athletes from last season's roster, including three-time All-CHA honoree Natalie Heising, second-team All-American Kiara Zanon, and USCHO.com National Rookie of the Year Josie Bothun.
Penn State will begin the 2021-22 season at home at Pegula Ice Arena with a nonconference series against St. Lawrence this Thursday and Friday, Sept. 23-24, with both games beginning at 7 p.m.
