NOTES: No. 6 Penn State Visits No. 2 Iowa for Weekend Field Hockey Series

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Nittany Lions (6-0, 1-0 B1G), ranked No. 6 nationally, visit No. 2 Iowa (8-0, 1-0 B1G) for a pair of games this coming weekend.  The Lions and Hawkeyes battle on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. Eastern for the conference-counted game and then on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. Eastern for a non-conference game.

Penn State is coming off a thrilling 3-2 overtime win at No. 7 Maryland on Saturday.  Mackenzie Allessie scored Penn State's first goal and Sophia Gladieux scored the second and third (the latter in overtime) to spark Penn State. Brie Barraco had seven saves in the win as well.

Gladieux and Anna Simon lead Penn State with 16 points off seven goals and two assists each.  Allessie checks in with 12 points off three goals and six assists. Elena Vos has six assists as well.  Barraco has 32 saves, a .780 save percentage and one shutout to date.

Iowa comes in with an 8-0 record, 1-0 in the Big Ten. The Hawkeyes have notches six straight shutout wins as well.  Iowa downed Indiana for a Big Ten on Friday night, 3-0.  The Hawkeyes then shutout No. 5 Louisville 2-0 on Sunday to remain unbeaten.  Ellie Holley leads Iowa with 19 points off six goals and seven assists.  Keeper Grace McGuire has 20 saves, an .833 percentage and six shutouts.  Iowa leads the all-time series 31-26-1, including the last meeting, 1-0 Hawkeye win in Virginia Beach this past March (3/7/21).

Penn State will host two Big Ten games next weekend.  The Nittany Lions host Indiana on Friday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. and Northwestern on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 12 p.m.
