No. 12 Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 to Ohio State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 12 Penn State women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Ohio State Buckeyes at Jeffrey Field. Penn State travels to Wisconsin on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network.
 
How it Happened
 
Penn State nearly took the early advantage in the third minute of action. Ally Schlegel got behind the Buckeyes back line and sent her shot in the back of the net. The goal was take off the scoreboard as Schlegel was ruled offsides.
 
Schlegel had a second opportunity in the 10th minute but her shot was blocked by a Buckeye defender.
 
Penn State held the majority of the possession in the first half and the defense limited Ohio State to five shots, none on goal in the first 45 minutes of action.
 
Schlegel continued to pressure the Buckeyes, sending another shot on goal. This time it was saved by the sliding Buckeye goalkeeper.
 
The Nittany Lions and Buckeyes went into the half tied at 0-0.
 
Penn State came out of the half firing. Sam Coffey and Kate Wiesner had two great looks in the 49th minute. Coffey's blast was blocked by a Buckeye defender and Wiesner's was saved.
 
The Nittany Lions best opportunity came in the 64th minute as Schlegel ended up with the ball at her feet in the box. Schlegel blasted her shot on frame but a great save by the Ohio State keeper denied Schlegel of her fourth goal of the season.
 
Ohio State took advantage of a free kick opportunity just outside of the Penn State. The Buckeyes scored the free kick to take a one-goal advantage.
 
As Penn State looked for the equalizer, Jilly Shimkin sent a shot that went just over the crossbar as she nearly tied the match in the 81st minute.
 
The Nittany Lions were unable to find the tying goal and fell to the Buckeyes 1-0.
 
Penn State plays two games on the road before returning to Jeffrey Field.
