Nittany Lions to Host Spiked Shoe Invitational

Opens in a new window Spiked Shoe Results

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State cross country team will host its first cross country meet in nearly two years on Friday at the Penn State Golf Course.

The Spiked Shoe Invitational is set to begin at 10 a.m. and will feature athletes from Penn State, Georgetown, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State and Syracuse.

"The team is excited to get back out there on our home course," Head Coach John Gondak said. "It will be our first home meet in nearly two years and we'll have a chance to face some great competition. This meet will be a good test to see where we are at this point in the season and what we need to do to improve moving forward."

The Nittany Lions kicked off their season last week at the Dolan Duals in Lock Haven, seeing success in both the men's and women's competitions. The day began with the women's race, with freshman Allison Johnson winning her collegiate debut with a time of 14:14.0. Penn State had its top seven place within 22 seconds of each other.

The men had an equally impressive start to their season, with graduate transfer Eric Hamel winning his Nittany Lion debut with a time of 18:01.0. The team's top 12 finishers placed within 50 seconds of each other.

The Penn State Golf Course will be the host of three cross country meets this season, highlighted by the Big Ten Cross Country Championships on Oct. 29. Information on Penn State's home course including parking and course maps can be found below.
