Coffey Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Senior captain Sam Coffey has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week following her performance last week against Maryland.

Coffey netted a first half hat trick and tallied an assist in the Nittany Lions 5-1 win over Maryland last Friday. Her goal in the 27th minute was the game-winning goal in the victory over Maryland and her first game-winner of the season.

With Coffey's assist on Rachel Wasserman's goal in the second half against Maryland, Coffey moved into sole possession of 10th place all-time in assists as a Nittany Lion with 27.

When Coffey scored her second goal of the game, she became just the 50th student-athlete in NCAA Division I history to record 40 goals and 40 assists in a career. Coffey now has 41 goals and 51 assists.

Coffey is the only active player in NCAA college soccer with 50 or more assists.

The weekly award is Coffey's second of her career as she was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on September 4, 2019.

Coffey and the Nittany Lions are back in action Wednesday, October 13 against Indiana on ESPNU at 7 p.m. ET.

The Penn State women's soccer season is presented by the Smeal College of Business.
