MORGANTOWN, WV. -- The Penn State Women's Tennis team continued to find success in day 2 of the Martha Thorn Invitational hosted by West Virginia. The tournament will continue through tomorrow, October 17.
Singles
The Nittany Lions continued their strong singles play throughout day two of the tournament, collecting 4 singles matches wins. Sofiya Chekhlystova defeated Chelsea Sawyer of Louisville. Chekhlystova collected a 6-1 victory in the first set and a 6-2 victory in the second set.
Gabby OGorman battled Rhea Verma of Louisville to a 3-1/retirement win.
Deanna Lasorda captured a 6-3 win in her first set over Tatiana Simova of Lousiville. Lasorda finished out the match 7-6(4) to close out the win.
Sydney Weinberg came out victorious in her battle against Joy Callwood of Louisville, 3-6, 6-3, 11-9.
Doubles
Duo Gabby OGorman and Sofiya Chekhlystova continued their winning streak throughout doubles play of the tournament. OGorman/Chekhlystova added a 6-1win over James Madison's team of Daria Afanasyeva and Kylie Moulin.
Olivia Ryan and Karly Friedland contributed to another Nittany Lion win by taking down Michelle Los Arcos and Daniela Voloh of James Madison, 6-1.
The Nittany Lions are back tomorrow for their final day of tournament action in the Martha Thorn Invitational.
