University Park, Pa. – The Penn State men's and women's fencing teams will open the season this weekend at the Temple Open in Philadelphia, Pa. hosted by Temple University. The open is estimated to draw nearly 500 athletes from 30 schools. The event takes place on Oct. 23-24.
Interim head coach Adam Kaszubowski will lead a contingent of nearly 20 student-athletes to the event.
Fencing for the women this weekend will be:
Foil - Samantha Catantan (Quezon City, Phillipines), Ari Proietti (Como, Italy), Ariel Rastep (San Francisco, Calif.)
Epee - Kateryna Chorniy (Kyiv, Ukraine), Jaclyn Khrol (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Axelle Wasiak (Vlaams-Brabant, Belgium), Sabine Desamours (Warrenton, Va.), Jordan Liverant (Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Saber - Pauline Conscience (Paris, France)
Fencing for the men this weekend will be:
Foil - Caiden Cannon (Gahanna, Ohio), Donavyn Martinez (Fresno, Calif.), Konner Paik (Norwood N.J.)
Epee - Mitchel Bekker (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Stafford Moosekian (Los Angeles, Calif.), Daniel Shifron (Pittsburgh, Pa.)
Sabre - Jeff Basalyga (Saddle River, N.J.), Fernando Chacon (La Paz, Bolivia), Clement Perrier (Allauch, France)
Following this week, select members of the Nittany Lion teams will compete in the NAC Division 1 meet in St. Louis, Mo. from Oct. 29 – Nov. 1.
