MORGANTOWN, WV. -- The Penn State Women's Tennis team wrapped up their play at the Martha Thorn Invitational today, Oct.17. In their final day of play, the Nittany Lions collected 4 singles play match wins. Up next, Penn State Women's Tennis will be traveling to Super ITA Regionals hosted by the University of Virginia on Oct.22- Oct. 25.
"This weekend went really well, everyone played well, and we had some really great results," Gabby OGorman said when recapping the weekend. "For some girls it was a good warm up leading into the super-regional tournament next weekend and for the rest it was a good way to finish the fall tournaments."
Singles
Penn State Women's Tennis closed out their final day of singles play, 4-2. Gabby OGorman defeated West Virginia's, Kendall Kovick, 6-1 in both sets of the match.
Sofiya Chekhlystova continued her undefeated singles play streak for this weekend's tournament. Chekhlystova collected a 6-3-win against Ting-Pei Chang of West Virginia and earned her undefeated status by winning 6-0 in the second set.
Karly Friedland won her battle over Camilla Bossi of West Virginia in a close 6-3 first set. Then continued her efforts to earn a 6-4 win over Bossi in the second set.
Olivia Ryan put up a hard-earned fight against West Virginia's, Momoko Nagato. Ryan was defeated 1-6 in the first set. However, she came back in the second the second set 6-3 and captured her victory of the match with a 10-8 win her the third set of play.
