UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Former Penn State men's lacrosse greats Grant Ament and Mac O'Keefe recently played for the U.S. Men's Team at the USA Fall Classic. They played games against Team Canada and the University of Virginia at the event, which was held at the USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland.
The U.S. Men won both games, defeating Team Canada 11-5 on Friday and Virginia 8-7 on Saturday. In the matchup against Canada, Ament started and finished with one goal and one ground ball. O'Keefe was the only player on the team to score multiple goals.
The Ament-O'Keefe connection that was so prevalent during their time together at Penn State, including a run to the 2019 NCAA National Semifinal, was back in action against Virginia. O'Keefe scored twice, including once on an assist from Ament and added one assist. Ament totaled a team-best three goals, including one on an assist from O'Keefe.
The U.S. Men led by as much as five at 7-2 before Virginia scored five of the final six goals. Neither team scored in the final 10:35 of play.
Penn State assistant coach John Haus was also invited to play for Team USA at the event but was unable to attend.
Ament graduated Penn State in 2020 with a Big Ten and program record 284 career points, including 191 assists. A large chunk of those assists went to O'Keefe, who wrapped his career in 2021 as the NCAA Division I men's lacrosse all-time leading scorer with 221 goals.
