Murtagh Wins Big Ten Weekly Honor

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's swimming and diving senior Madison Murtagh has been tabbed Big Ten Swimmer of the Week, announced by the conference on Wednesday. Murtagh helped Penn State to a 181-107 victory over West Virginia last Friday. She earned wins in the 200 Free and 500 Free.

This is Murtagh's first Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honor. She won three Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards during the 2018-19 season.

Murtagh touched first in the 200 Free with a time of 1:51.84, over a second ahead of second place. Later in the meet, Murtagh captured the 500 Free title with a time of 4:57.12, finishing seven seconds ahead of the next finisher.

"It's an honor well deserved," said Head Coach Tim Murphy. "Madison has been working diligently and has set high goals for herself this year."

The Nittany Lions return to action on Friday, October 29-Saturday, October 30 at Liberty.
