Penn State Hosts Big Ten XC Championships Friday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – For the first time since 2009, the Big Ten Cross Country Championships will be held at Penn State on Friday. The event at the Blue & White Golf Courses will begin with the men's 5.2-mile run at 10:45 a.m. followed by the women's 6k at 11:45 a.m.

A LOOK BACK
This will mark the third time the Big Ten XC Championships will be held at Penn State (1999, 2009). The Nittany Lion women claimed the conference title at the 2009 meet. Penn State's Bridget Franek won the individual title at the event, recording a time of 20:03. She is one of three Penn State women to win the individual crown as Kim McGreevy won the title in 1996 and Caitlin Lane claimed the championship in 2011.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Nittany Lions enter Friday's competition coming off their strongest performance of the season at the Penn State National Open. The Penn State men placed second in the meet, with Evan Dorenkamp claiming his first cross country victory as a Nittany Lion. The team had five top 30 finishers in the race.
 
The Penn State women placed fourth in the meet with seven runners in the top 40. Sophia Toti and Madaline Ullom led Penn State with 16th and 17th place finishes.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
The meet will mark the Nittany Lions third competition at the Penn State Golf Courses this season.
