Swimming & Diving Set To Compete At Liberty This Weekend

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Women's Swimming and Diving team will travel to Lynchburg, Virginia this weekend to compete in their third meet of the season and second on the road. They'll race against Liberty and ECU at Liberty Natatorium on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, October 30 at 11 a.m. 
 
The Nittany Lions come into this matchup after a bye week. Two weeks ago, the women earned a road win against West Virginia following a season-opening 209-91 win against Navy.

Penn State Women are led by seniors Madison Murtagh and Marie Schobel, each winning two individual events at West Virginia. 
 
For her performance against the Mountaineers, Murtagh earned the title of Big Ten Swimmer of the Week. She won the 200 free (1:51.84) and the 500 free in 4.57.21, finishing more than seven seconds in front of her nearest opponent. 
 
Schobel led Penn State in sweeping the backstroke events for the second time in two weeks. She won both the 100 (55.09) and 200 (2:00.32). Emma Harvey followed Murtagh to second in the 100 (55.77) and third in the 200 (2:04.63) while Molly Carson earned third in the 100 (56.62) and second in the 200 (2:03.32).
 
Scouting the Opponents
Liberty won the CCSA championship for the past three years and have begun their season with wins at Campbell and Marshall. The Nittany Lions last faced the Flames at home in 2019, winning 212-139. 

ECU is 2-4 this season, with both wins coming during the ECU Tri-Meet. Penn State will compete against ECU for the first time in program history.
 
Next Up 
The women's team will be back on the road in Greensboro, N.C. for the NC State Invitational. Both the men's and women's teams will compete in the three-day event from Thursday, November 18-Saturday, November 20.
