WINTHROP, Mass. – Penn State women's hockey student-athletes Josie Bothun and Mallory Uihlein received CHA weekly awards for their individual play last week as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.
Bothun was awarded her second conference goaltender of the week honor and Uihlein was named the CHA defender of the week.
The sophomore goaltender had two more solid performances in goal against a potent Boston College offense last Thursday and Friday. Made 38 saves on 42 BC shots in the series, including a handful of great kick saves that kept the Nittany Lions within striking distance on both nights.
Through four starts, Bothun holds a 1.73 GAA with the second-most minutes played among all goaltenders (242:26).
Uihlein got the Nittany Lions on the board last Thursday with her game-tying goal in the third period that eventually was enough to send the game to overtime. The junior defender was excellent moving the puck in the series and contributed to Penn State's 72-41 shot-on-goal advantage for the weekend.
The Edina, Minn. native ranks eighth among Penn State's all-time defensive group with 22 career points (4G, 18A).
The Nittany Lions complete a six-game homestand to begin the 2021-22 season with a nonconference series against Holy Cross this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 8-9.
